Queensland Health Immunisation Program

The Queensland Health Immunisation Program (QHIP) implements the National Immunisation Program in Queensland. The National Immunisation Program is a joint Australian, State and Territory Government initiative aimed at controlling the incidence of vaccine preventable diseases in the community through improving vaccination coverage to recommended National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) levels.

QHIP provides direct services, including vaccine distribution and immunisation advice, to over 1,800 vaccine service providers. These providers include general practitioners, councils, hospitals, correctional facilities, child and community health, and Community Controlled Health Services.

QHIP:

• coordinates the delivery of funded vaccines to service providers
• maintains and enhances the immunisation database - Vaccination Information and Vaccination Administration System (VIVAS)
• works with partners to develop and oversee the implementation of policy and strategies to improve immunisation in Queensland
• coordinates the School Based Vaccination Program to immunise school aged children according to the National Immunisation Program
• provides ongoing information and advice to service providers about the Immunisation Schedule and vaccine management
• provides ongoing information to the community
• represents Queensland Health on national and state committees.
