For the guys - think you've got an infection?
If you’ve got an infection, you may experience some of the following symptoms:
- discharge from the penis
- sores, blisters or lumps on the penis, pubic area or around the anus
- frequent urge to pass urine and pain/burning while passing urine
- pain in the scrotum
- rectal pain/discharge
- NOTHING – no obvious signs or symptoms is very common with some STIs.
Remember, these symptoms have many causes and do not necessarily mean you have an STI.
However, very often a person can have an STI without knowing it. A person with an STI may look perfectly healthy because the infection doesn’t cause obvious symptoms. While some infections appear to go away without treatment, they stay active in the body (eg. in the bloodstream). This means the infection can be passed on to other sexual partners or cause health problems later.
