Accident and Emergency Health

The Accident and Emergency Health Department at The Mackay Base Hospital is a modern emergency department with resuscitation bays,  fully-monitored acute care bays,  general consult rooms and plaster, eye and procedure rooms.  The department acts as a secondary referral centre for other smaller emergency departments within the region and also treats patients transported to the hospital by the region’s CQ Rescue helicopter service.

Bowen, Clermont, Moranbah, Proserpine and Sarina all have emergency departments, are open 24 hours per day and are staffed or have staff on immediate call to assist with medical emergencies.
Emergency Departments are busy places and patients are treated on a needs basis – emergencies and severe illnesses will take priority over more minor complaints. If you have a health concern but it's not an emergency, you can phone 13 HEALTH (13 43 25 84) 24 hours a day/7 days a week for help. Qualified and experienced staff will give you advice on what to do and how quickly you should do it.
