MASS - How does MASS operate?
- MASS provides access to subsidy funding for the provision of MASS endorsed aids and equipment to Queensland residents with permanent and stabilised conditions or disabilities
- The range of MASS aids and equipment is selected to assist people to live at home and avoid premature or inappropriate residential care or hospitalisation
- Aids and equipment are subsidy funded either on a permanent loan basis, private ownership or through the purchase of consumables
- Aids and equipment will not be provided when the main intent is for use to access the community including school and work
- MASS reissues reusable aids and equipment where possible
- If the aids and equipment needed are not available to be reissued and there are funds available, MASS may arrange the purchase of new aids and equipment
- If funds are not available immediately, the applicant may have to wait for equipment (except for some specific ‘no wait’ items). MASS will advise if the applicant is to be placed on a waiting list
- The applicant may be required to make a non-refundable co-payment towards the cost of new items. MASS will advise of what contribution is required
- MASS does not provide funds to cover the cost of aids or equipment that have been privately purchased, either before or after applying for assistance from MASS
- The applicant or prescriber may apply for replacement aids or equipment at intervals as set out in the MASS Statewide Prescriber Procedures
- Aids and equipment provided by MASS are to be maintained in good condition and used only for the purpose intended
- MASS pays for repairs and maintenance for plaqued items of equipment where ownership has not been transferred to the applicant
- Priority is given to those people with the greater need
