How does the Spectacle Supply Scheme (SSS) operate?

Spectacle Supply Scheme (SSS) is managed by MASS according to eligibility criteria in the MASS Spectacle Supply Scheme Guidelines

All eligible applications to SSS are assessed through an equitable process based on clinical need.

The Guidelines have been developed to provide quality, consistency and standardisation in the administration of SSS.  In managing and administering SSS, MASS provides a consistent centralised service with improved service delivery to clients and increased participation of prescribers.

Applicants must have a clinical need for spectacles based on changes to their eyesight as determined by an Optometrist/Opthalmologist.

The new Spectacle Supply Scheme (SSS) Standing Offer Arrangement (SOA), in place from 1 April 2011 introduces an enhanced range for clients including metal frames as a standard available option.

Refer to the  SOA Frame Catalogue,  Spectacles webpage, client brochurenew information booklet or Dispenser List (Excel format) Dispenser List (PDF format) for information.
