Pregnancy and childbirth are important events in the life of a woman and her family. The experience is strongly affected by the woman's culture, her level of knowledge and the support and care she and her family receives during pregnancy, birth and beyond.
A review of maternity services was commissioned by the Queensland Government in 2004. Dr Cherrell Hirst AO was commissioned to independently chair the review with the support of a panel of experts. Re-Birthing: Report of the Review of Maternity Services in Queensland, was publicly released in 2005 after endorsement by Cabinet.
