Mental Health Achievement Awards winners

Winners in the Queensland Mental Health Achievement Awards 2011 have now been decided and are listed below.

The Mental Health Alcohol and Other Drugs Directorate hosted the Queensland Mental Health Achievement Awards 2011 on Friday 14 October at Hillstone St Lucia.

The Awards recognise outstanding individuals and organisations that have helped raise public awareness of the importance of mental wellbeing, improved the delivery of mental health services and promoted greater social inclusion of Queenslanders living with mental illness.

The theme of this year's Awards, 'from little things, big things grow', acknowledged the importance of each nominee's contribution, no matter how small or large.

Queensland Health proudly partnered with Open Minds in staging the Awards, with the annual Open Minds Earle Duus Award again incorporated into the program.  The winners of each Awards category (other than the Media category) are eligible to receive this additional honour, in recognition of their valuable contribution to the mental health and wellbeing of Queenslanders.

About the Awards

Now in their fourth year, these Awards recognise the efforts of Queenslanders who are working to raise public awareness of the importance of mental wellbeing, improve the delivery of mental health services and promote greater participation in our community by persons living with mental illness.

The theme for the Awards is again 'from little things, big things grow'. This acknowledges that the contributions of all nominees, no matter how small, make a big difference in improving mental health care in Queensland and helping Queenslanders living with mental illness to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of their communities.

Queensland Health delivers the Awards in partnership with the non-government organisation, Open Minds, with Open Minds' annual Earle Duus Award incorporated in the Awards program.

Open Minds supports people with mental illness, intellectual disability or acquired brain injury to live independently within the community.  For more information about Open Minds and the late Earle Duus, the Brisbane accountant and philanthropist in whose honour the Award is named, please visit www.openminds.org.au

The Awards will be presented at a ceremony in Brisbane on 14 October 2011 attended by finalists and by stakeholders from the government and non-government mental health sectors, not-for-profit and community organisations, consumers, carers and members of the media.
