The Metro South Hospital and Health Service will be managed by both clinicians and members of the community in the form of a Hospital and Health Board. The Board will be an independent, high-level decision maker on health policies, programs and services within the health service. Members will be legally responsible for the service as a statutory body and will report to the Minister for Health.

Members of Metro South's Hospital and Health Board will be appointed by the Minister for Health through a merit-based process. Any health professional or member of the community with the necessary expertise to contribute to running a large and complex health care organisation wass invited to apply.
In addition to the Board, there will be a new position created called the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This position will be appointed by the Board and will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the network. The CEO will be accountable to the Board.
