Workplace support
Sharing stories about workplaces that have welcomed, supported and celebrated cultural diversty among staff can help build positive and productive workplaces throughout Queensland Health and beyond. If you have a good story about a supportive work environment for cultural diversity, please let us know by emailing multicultural@health.qld.gov.au. We look forward to showcasing your stories.
From time to time, problems can occur in any workplace. Providing a working environment which is free from discrimination and harassment and where all employees are treated with courtesy, dignity and respect is an important component of building workforce diversity. Queensland Health aims to eliminate discrimination in all employment practices based on irrelevant characteristics such as gender, culture or ethnic background.
The policies that support this commitment are located on the Human Resources Branch website. Direct links to key policies are shown above.
The following steps are a summary of the options outlined in the Queensland Health Anti-Discrimination Policy.
-
Discussion between the employee experiencing discrimination and their supervisor or line manager is recommended, particularly in the early stage of a problem.
-
Contact a Workplace Equity and Harassment Officer (WEHO) who can provide information, support and guidance on resolving the problem. (Contact details for WEHO are available on the Queensland Health intranet.)
-
If an employee considers that they have been discriminated against, they are entitled to lodge a grievance.
-
If the grievance process has not resolved the problem, an employee may lodge a complaint with the Anti-Discrimination Commission Queensland.
Workpace Equity and Harrassement Officers are available to support you in this process.
