video remote interpreting for interpreters

Multicultural Ribbons Graphic

Queensland Health is now promoting the use of videoconference technology to provide interpreters to regional and remote Queensland.

Common reasons for using a video remote interpreter

It is possible that you may be booked for a video remote interpreting assignment in the future.

What is video remote interpreting?

There are four possibilities with video remote interpreting in the Queensland Health context
  1. The interpreter is remote from the health professional and non English speaking or deaf person (with the health professional and non English speaking or deaf person being together at the same location)
  2. The interpreter is physically located with the non English speaking or deaf person and the health professional is remote
  3. The interpreter is physically located with the health professional and the non English speaking or deaf person is remote
  4. The interpreter, health professional and deaf person are all physically located together and the Indigenous Deaf relay or Deaf relay interpreter is remote.

What you need to know

Your service provider will give you detailed instructions on where to go and the name of the room and videoconference unit you will be using.  They will also provide you with the contact details of a Queensland Health person who can assist you with your videoconference call. However it's important that you know the basics.

Training available

There is a workshop provided free of charge to interpreters that provide interpreting services to Queensland Health.

The workshop includes theory and practical application and is conducted at a Queensland Health facility (or an associated facility with compatible videoconference technology).

Training topics covered include:
