Health Impact Assessment Steps
The project followed the accepted environmental health risk assessment principles and steps outlined below.

Screening – making a decision about whether a HIA is required.

Scoping – determining what areas the HIA will cover and establishing study parameters such as timeframe, resources etc.

Information collection – gathering information from agreed sources (such as community statistics, surveys, field investigations) to enable evaluation of health impacts.

Health impact evaluation – an assessment of the positive and negative health impacts of the condition under investigation.

Strategy identification – development of sustainable strategies to improve or eliminate negative health impacts and enhance positive impacts.

Health impact statement – a summary of the potential negative and positive impacts
with recommendations to address the outcomes.
