Cyclone hotline numbers for help and information

The Queensland Government has set up a special hotline phone number for victims of Cyclone Larry in addition to an earlier number for people seeking information on those who were evacuated.

"We have set up a special hotline of 1800 440 074 for victims of the cyclone who need emotional, physical, financial or accommodation help," said Premier Peter Beattie this morning (Monday).

"This is in addition to the Queensland Police number of 1800 100 188 for people seeking details of those who were evacuated."

Mr Beattie said he had been updated on the progress of the cyclone throughout the night.

"At 5.30am I had a meeting with Senior Ministers, Police Commissioner Bob Atkinson, departmental directors-general and emergency services leaders at Mackay Police Station to continue ensuring we were doing everything possible to deal with the effects of the cyclone.

"We held a second meeting at 9.30am at the police station.

"I have spoken to Johnstone Shire Council Mayor Neil Clark who told me that many buildings had been destroyed.

"I told him that we would provide whatever assistance we could."
