Underpinning the Nursing and Midwifery Staff Development Framework is the Queensland Health Performance Appraisal and Development (PAD) System. The PAD process plays a key role in the ongoing development of nurses and midwives by enabling them, in partnership with line managers, to identify opportunities for development along the learning continuum.
PAD is the process of identifying, evaluating and developing the performance of employees in an organisation, so that organisational goals are more effectively achieved. It also provides the mechanism whereby all nurses/midwives can benefit in terms of recognition, receiving feedback, career planning, professional and personal development.
The role of the nurse/midwifery educator in the PAD process is to provide support for line managers and individual nurses/midwives by planning and/or delivering professional development opportunities.
