What is the transition process?
This is the period of time when a staff member undergoes a process of learning and adjustment to acquire the skills, knowledge and values required to become an effective team member in a specific practice area.
Who does this apply to?
- New employees
- New graduates (registered and enrolled)
- Nurses and midwives re-entering the workforce
- Any nurse/midwife transferring from one area of practice to an unfamiliar area of practice
- Overseas nurses and midwives
What is involved?
The transition process is facilitated through a range of opportunities, including:
- New graduate programs
- Online learning modules (foundation and clinical intensives) with clinical support
- Skills development through in-services offered on-the-job or by local staff development units
- Nursing and Midwifery Refresher and Re-entry Programs
How long does it take?
The transition process does not represent a fixed period of time.
How do I start?
Planning of learning and development activities during the transition process are undertaken with nurse and midwifery educators in collaboration with line managers through a performance appraisal and development process.
