FAQs

I have registered, but I haven’t received my password yet, what should I do?

Should you not receive your password within 10 minutes, please check any junk folders in your email account.  Secondly, re-register with a new username and ensure that your email address is typed in correctly.  If this still fails to come through, please email gradnurse@health.qld.gov.au

What do I need to apply for a graduate position in Queensland Health?

The online system is your application/resume and you do not need transcripts, references or a covering letter.  The system requires the following information:

  • Personal Details
    • Address, contact details etc
  • Tertiary Qualification
    • Your current Grade Point Average (GPA)
  • Summary of your employment history
    • Dates of employment
    • Employer name
    • Position
    • Overview of duties
  • Clinical Placement History
    • Facility name
    • Clinical area
    • Dates of placement
  • Achievements and Outside Interest (3,000 characters)
  • Hospital preferences
  • Clinical preference
    • A drop down menu will be provided
  • Response to the Applicant Statement (3,000 characters)
  • 3 Clinical/Professional Referees
    • Need contact details only

I don’t have a Grade Point Average (GPA) and I don’t know how to calculate it, what should I put down?

As this is not a mandatory field, you can leave this blank. However, if you would like to work out your GPA, please preform a search on a Queensland Universities website and follow the instructions.  Queensland graduates should include their last semesters GPA which can be obtained from your University.

I have completed my application, but have forgotten to submit my application, what should I do?

Nothing, your application is automatically submitted at midnight of the closing date.

I have submitted my application, but haven’t heard anything.  When should I expect to hear from the Hospitals?

The Hospitals will contact you within 4 weeks after applications close.  If you have any questions about your application, please contact the Hospital recruiter from the following site http://www.health.qld.gov.au/nursing/gnor/partihosp.asp

Can I apply for a graduate position in Queensland if I am from interstate or overseas?

Yes you can.
Overseas nursing graduates can apply via our online system when the system opens. However, you should note we have a responsibility to place all our own graduates first, so our hospitals will first look to Australian graduates to fill positions, then if they still have positions available they will look to overseas applicants. We do employ overseas graduates each year.

You may also wish to look at the information on the Queensland Nursing Council's (QNC) website regarding applying for nursing registration in Queensland. You will need this registration before commencing work as a nurse in Queensland (you do not need it at the time of submitting your application for a graduate nurse position). The QNC web address is: www.qnc.qld.gov.au

If you intend to apply for registration, your UK registration is part of the required documentation. When you are applying to the Queensland Nursing Council make sure that you submit all of the listed documents to facilitate the registration process. Allow plenty of time for this to occur (usually up to 3 months from submission). When you apply for a graduate position through the GNOR portal, calculate when you will most likely have your registration through to guide you as to when you would be available to start in a graduate position.

Is there an online system for Enrolled Nurses and Midwives?

Not at this stage. Our online system applies for graduate registered nurse positions only. Graduate ENs and Midwives should apply directly to the hospitals.  Hospital information and contact details can be found at http://www.health.qld.gov.au/nursing/gnor/partihosp.asp

For specific information on graduate transition programs or to inquire about the status of your application, please contact hospitals (http://www.health.qld.gov.au/nursing/gnor/partihosp.asp) directly.
