The Office of the Chief Nursing Officer is calling for the submission of funding proposals to support the Queensland Health, Rural Maternity Initiative (RMI).

In 2009/10 financial year, $1 million in total has been allocated to the Rural Maternity Initiative which will give rural women more access to maternity services, a key principle that underpins the Advancing Health Action Plan - giving mothers and babies the best start.  The Rural Maternity Initiative is part of the Maternity Services Enhancement plan which has been funded $9 million over four years for sustainability of local maternity services.

Priority for funding will be given to maternity service improvements that meet the following principles:

• Service improvement develops or improves continuity of carer for women
• District Health Service executive/management commitment to sustainability of model post 2009/10
• Midwifery and Medical Support of Model
• Collaborative care with other members of the maternity team facilitated
• Increase access to care and/or options of care
• Rural defined by Appendix 5 or Appendix 8A of Health (Drugs and Poisions) Regulation 1996

Submissions should be made on the above template by 21st November 2008.
