These ventures support improvements in the health of Queenslanders and patient outcomes in Queensland’s publicly funded health care facilities.

Intellectual property opportunities will include new technologies backed by patent protection and various types of copyright works.

Commercialisation of a better diagnostic test for Neisseria gonorrhoeae

Queensland Health (QH) researchers have developed a new, highly accurate Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) diagnostic test for the detection of Neisseria gonorrhoeae in clinical samples.

QH’s improved diagnostic test for Neisseria gonorrhoeae provides:

• Increased specificity for detection of gonorrhoea thus decreasing the chances of misdiagnosis and associated social and financial costs;
• Increased accuracy in testing extra-genital sites of infection;
• An effective, reliable supplementary test assay to existing in-house or commercial assays; and
• Improved management of patients due to a decreased use of antibiotics.
