Central Coordinating Service

Multi-centre Research Allocation System

To further streamline the process of single ethical review, a Central Coordinating Service (CCS) for multi-centre QH research projects being undertaken at QH sites, has been established for all studies which would have been reviewed by more than one HREC prior to the introduction of single ethical review.

The system is being implemented in three phases.

The first phase will be intrastate single ethical review within Queensland by NHMRC certified HRECs.

The second phase is planned for August 2011 and will involve mutual acceptance of ethical and scientific review of multi-centre interstate clinical trials undertaken by Public Health Organisations (PHO) in Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales. http://www.health.qld.gov.au/ohmr/html/regu/mou_serp.asp

The third phase will be introduced with the national harmonised system, under the NHMRC HoMER Project which is planned for 2012.

The CCS provides a telephone booking service which identifies and allocates applications to an appropriately NHMRC certified Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC).
