Recipients 2009
The successful Queensland based companies were:
ETS Mobility (a business initiative of the Cerebral Palsy League) for Pro-Fit, that uses software to make custom seating for people with significant skeletal deformities
NeuroTech Research P/L for Neuromathix, that uses software to more closely define specific drug delivery for patients, enhancing the therapeutic efficiency of medications
Diversionary Therapy Technologies P/L for Ditto, a hand-held device that alleviates pain and anxiety by diverting the attention of paediatric burns patients
A software progam that helps design special seating for people with skeletal deformity is among four medical devices awarded up to $50,000 each from the Queensland Government because of the potential to improve patient safety and comfort. The device uses a computer program to design individual seating for people whose spinal and pelvic conditions – such as cerebral palsy – confine them to a wheelchair.
Acting Health Minister Andrew Fraser said the four inventions, awarded second-round grants under the Medical Devices Financial Incentive Program, were outstanding applicants. “This will assist the Queensland companies that have come up with these innovative devices to have them clinically assessed and trialled,” Mr Fraser said.
