Admission

Inpatients

When you arrive at Princess Alexandra Hospital as an inpatient, please go to Admission, on the ground floor near the main information desk when you arrive.

Surgery and Day Surgery Patients

If you are a surgery or day surgery patient and your are being admitted on the day of your surgery, you need to contact the Surgical Care Unit between 4.30pm and 7.00pm on (07) 3176 5740, on the afternoon before your surgery.  The Surgical Care Unit will give you advice about your admission and fasting times (this information will not be available before 4.30pm). You may be asked to stop eating and drinking before coming to hospital, this includes chewing gum, lollies, and water. If your surgery is on Monday, you must phone on the previous Friday.

If you are a day surgery patient, please tell the person who will be taking you home (your escort) that they will receive a phone call when you are ready to be discharged. If your escort has no phone or will not be home, please tell nursing staff when you arrive at the Surgical Care Unit.

You may be required to visit the Pre-admission Clinic  before the day of your surgery.

Outpatients

Please bring your referral letter or patient information guide with you and ask for directions to your clinic at the main information desk, on the Ground Level or Building 1.
