If you are being discharged from a ward, “check out” time is usually 10.00am. You should arrange for transport from the Hospital close to this time.
If you are being discharged from the Surgical Care Unit (after a minor operation or procedure), the staff will phone your relative, carer or friend to arrange a suitable time for you to be picked up.
Staff will give you information about your treatment, recovery at home and any follow up appointments. Staff will organise a medical certificate if you need one and if you ask for it before your discharge. On discharge, the pharmacist will supply you with up to 10 days of all medicines you need.
Discharge and Transit Lounge
The Transit and Discharge Lounge, near the Main Foyer, Ground Level, Building 1, is a comfortable waiting area for patients and carers who are waiting for relatives, friends, transport or medication.
It has an Ambulance Waiting Area for patients waiting for transport by ambulance on discharge.
Ambulance Transport
Ambulance transport can be arranged for patients being discharged if there are medical reasons that they cannot travel any other way. Ambulance transport waiting time depends on the number of emergencies the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) is responding to.
