Some wards may have slightly different visiting times.
Visitors may be asked to leave the ward to meet your needs or needs of other patients. It is best if there are no more than two visitors for each patient at a time.
For infection control reasons it is very important that all visitors wash their hands before entering and after leaving your bedside area. Visitors should not sit on your bed. Chairs are provided for visitors.
The hospital does not have accommodation for relatives and friends of patients. A list of accommodation within walking distance of the hospital is available here, or from the reception desk located in the main foyer, ground floor, or by phoning switch on phone (07) 3240 2111.
If you relatives or friends wish to check on your progress, ask them to phone (07) 3240 2111. In building 1, phone calls will be out through to your bedside telephone between 7am and 2pm, and 4pm and 9pm when you are in the ward. Between 2pm and 4pm, patients are resting and callers will be asked to call back. The hospital recommends that a spokesperson be appointed to keep all relatives and friends informed of your progress.
Staff cannot give detailed information about your care over the telephone due to privacy and confidentiality requirements.
Relatives are not routinely notified when operations are to take place, except when an immediate or urgent operation is to be performed. In that case, every effort is made to notify the next of kin.
The only visitor parking on the Princess Alexandra Hospital grounds is in the Metro Parking multi-storey car park, located on the corner of Ipswich Road and O'Keefe Street (in the direction of the city from the main building of the hospital). There is a pedestrian linkway directly into the main hospital building. Please note that Brisbane City Council street restrictions apply in all streets surrounding the hospital.
A privately operated multi-storey car park is also available for patient/visitor/staff use across the road from the main building. The entrance to the car park is in Wolseley Street.
