Clinic Referral Procedure

General Referral Process

When referring patients, please either mail or fax the referral including mandatory information (listed below) to the appropriate clinic using one of the contact methods below.

Inclusion of this information will ensure we can process your patient's referral without delay and maintain updated contact details for future communication.

Additionally, the inclusion of specific tests and results will assist in a fast thorough assessment of the referral, triaging and categorising of your patient which will ultimately assist in appropriate future appointment scheduling.

Urgent Appointments

If a general practitioner deems it urgent for a person to be seen by a specialist, please contact the Princess Alexandra Hospital switchboard on (07) 3240 2111 and ask to speak to the specialty registrar to discuss.


New Case Referrals

A patient who hasn't been to a particular clinic before or who has not been seen for over a twelve month period is classified as a New Case Referral. Written referrals are required for all new patients and should include:
