Depression & Chronic Disease Program

The Program

The QTMHC's Transcultural Approach to Honouring the Mind & Body Program aims to tackle depression amongst people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds through self-management skills, exercise, and better links with CALD communities.

Mind & Body is part of the Queensland Strategy for Chronic Disease 2005-2015, which aims to reduce the incidence and prevalence of chronic disease by better managing health care, improving people's quality of life and avoiding hospitalisations.

Mind & Body consists of individual sessions facilitated by bilingual allied health professionals.  A total of 8 x 2-hour sessions are provided.

Participants receive a self-help manual and are encouraged to try the strategies discussed at home.  The following topics are included: understanding depression, positive thinking, pleasant activities, goal setting, problem solving, and being active.
