Constitution of the PAH HREC
The Princess Alexandra Hospital Human Research Ethics Committee is constituted in accordance with The NHMRC Guidelines and the National Statement. The purpose of the Committee is to ensure that all research practices are conducted in an ethical manner. The Human Research Ethics Committee reviews the ethical and scientific validity of research proposals.
The composition of the Committee is:
The Committee meets once a month, except in January, to review applications for ethics approval. The meeting is arranged to enable at least one member in each category to attend. According to the National Statement, Section 5.2.28; where there is less than full attendance of the minimum membership at a meeting, the Chairperson should be satisfied, before a decision is reached, that the views of those absent who belong to the minimum membership have been received and considered. All members are given the agenda papers to comment on if they are unable to attend.
The HREC is appointed by and acts in an advisory capacity to the Princess Alexandra Hospital Health Service District (PAH HSD). The Clinical CEO upon recommendation of the Committee may grant approval for research proposals conducted within its facilities. The Committee may also act for other Districts and Practices.
