PAH Careers : About working at PAH |
Princess Alexandra Hospital has come a long way from its roots as an orphanage in the late 1800s. We are now Queensland’s second largest tertiary hospital, employing over 5,000 staff plus on-site university, research and affiliate staff. We provide health care services in all major adult specialties* in a modern facility that was extensively re-developed in 2001. We admit over 78,000 patients each year and see an additional 400,000 occasions of service in our outpatient areas.
What sets us apart from other, similar sized organisations? We are all about creating a culture that reflects the way our staff want to work: providing a stimulating and supportive workplace; offering the perfect balance of work and play; providing ongoing development opportunities; and doing everything we can to make your life healthy and happy.
People often comment that “the PA”, as it is affectionately known, is a big organisation with a small, local feel – that sense of a tight-knit community that comes from loving where you work.

| Awards and Recognition
Magnet
We were the first hospital in the Southern Hemisphere to be awarded the prestigious “Magnet” status for the second time. Magnet is a highly regarded credentialing program that recognises hospitals throughout the world that demonstrate excellence in all aspects of nursing care. For us, though, it’s recognition of the passion, commitment and dedication of not only our nurses but every member of our multi-disciplinary team. |

| Australian Business Awards
We were presented with an Australian Business Award in the Public Service category in July 2010. The awards are part of a national program recognising success, innovation and ethics across all industry sectors, both commercial and public. We were recognised for our investment in culture, which has delivered improvements across the board. |
