Allied Health : Requirements for employment

Audiologists

Audiologists wishing to practise in Queensland must have tertiary level qualifications providing eligibility for provisional or full membership of the Audiological Society of Australia.

Nutritionists and Dietitians

Dietitians and nutritionists wishing to practise in Queensland must have tertiary level qualifications providing eligibility for membership or accreditation with the Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA).

Occupational Therapists

Individuals seeking employment as an occupational therapist in Queensland must be registered with the Occupational Therapists Board of Queensland. Applicants who are registered in another Australian State or Territory can apply for registration under the Mutual Recognition Act 1992.  Applicants who are registered and hold an Annual Practising Certificate in New Zealand can apply for registration under the Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition Act 1997

Pharmacists

Individuals wishing to practice as a pharmacist in Australia are required to be registered with the Pharmacy Board of Australia. To be eligible for registration as a pharmacist you need to complete a pharmacist qualification and undertake a year of supervised practical training. Pharmacists registered in New Zealand are eligible to apply for registration to practice under mutual recognition legislation.

Physiotherapists

Individuals wishing to practise as a physiotherapist in Queensland must be registered with the Physiotherapy Board of Australia. Applicants who are registered and hold a current Annual Practising Certificate in New Zealand can apply for registration under the Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition Act 1997.

Podiatrists

Individuals wishing to practise as a podiatrist in Queensland are required to be registered by the Podiatry Board of Australia.

Psychologists

Individuals wishing to practise as a psychologist in Queensland are required to be registered with the Psychology Board of Australia. A postgraduate qualification in Clinical Psychology or Neuropsychology is required for many psychology positions advertised at Princess Alexandra Hospital. Radiographers / Medical Imaging

Individuals seeking employment as a medical imaging technologist in Queensland must be registered with the Medical Radiation Technologists Board of Queensland. Individuals working as a medical imaging technologist in Queensland are also required to hold a current radiation safety licence.

Social Work

Individuals wishing to practise as a social worker in Queensland are required to be eligible for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers.

Speech Pathology

Individuals wishing to practise as a Speech Pathologist in Queensland are required to be registered with the Speech Pathology Board of Queensland.
