Princess Alexandra Hospital's $134 million expansion project is now complete. 

The project included a major expansion to the hospital's emergency department, a new Medical Assessment and Planning Unit (MAPU), a helipad with elevator to ground level, new radiation oncology bunkers for cancer treatment, and a new molecular imaging (PET scan) facility. The emergency department officially opened in November 2010; while the final stage of the project, new radiation oncology facilities, accepted its first patients in early 2012. 

Estimated completion dates

The project took place in the following stages:

• Stage 1: Rooftop helipad - completed in May 2010 
• Stage 2: ED expansion - completed in November 2010 
• Stage 3: New radiation oncology bunkers and molecular imaging (PET scan) facilitites completed in early 2012
