Princess Alexandra Hospital will triple the size of its existing emergency department with a new $88 million development on the south-east corner of the hospital. The development will feature 4,100 square meters of new space plus 800 square meters of upgraded space.  It includes an extended emergency department, a new Medical Assessment and Planning Unit (MAPU), Mental Health emergency assessment area, helipad with elevator to ground level, and new radiation oncology bunkers for cancer treatment.

The expansion will take place in the following stages:

• Stage 1: Rooftop helipad due for completion in March 2010
• Stage 2: ED expansion due for completion in mid-late 2010
• Stage 3: New radiation oncology bunkers due early 2011
