When you arrive at a PASH clinic you will be asked to fill in a form which asks for some personal details. All information you give is confidential (see the link "respecting your privacy "). When you finish filling out the form, you will receive a card with your clinic number on it. You should quote this number when visiting the clinic, making an appointment or requesting results.
You should expect to spend about an hour at the clinic on your first visit.
After filling out the form you should wait in the waiting room until you are called. The doctor or nurse will take you into a clinic room and ask you about your reason for attending the clinic, if you have any symptoms and your sexual health history. These questions help to work out what tests you may need and what information we can offer you.
You may need to do a urine test (so it's best not to pass urine for at least an hour before your appointment), and have a blood test. Also you may need a genital examination, and other tests taken if you have symptoms. The doctor or nurse will aim to make this as comfortable for you as possible. Please tell us if you prefer to see a man or woman when making your appointment.
You can get your results by phone (07 3176 5881), email (pash@health.qld.gov.au ) or at the clinic. You may need to return for treatment and if you have an infection your partner may also need treatment. We can help with information on how to tell your partner. Treatments in the clinic are free. Other medicines are provided under the PBS (Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme) at the hospital or local pharmacy and non-PBS items on private prescriptions.
