What is HEAPS training?
Human Error And Patient Safety (HEAPS) training was originally developed by the ErroMed Group to introduce health care workers and managers to human error as a contributing factor to patient harm in the workplace. The training course aims to promote learning from human error as a valuable strategy to reduce preventable patient harm and assist in creating a more reliable and safe system of health care. The fundamental principle of HEAPS is to change traditional attitudes that health care workers have around ‘blame and train’ to a more constructive and proactive approach of identifying and learning from human error as a tool to improve patient safety.
