Open Disclosure & The Queensland Approach

Most health professionals, health care organisations and insurers regard open disclosure as the right thing to do and that consumers expect it, however there is very little in place within health care settings to faciliate the process (Fallowfield & Jenkins 2004; Kraman, Cranfill, Hamm & Woodard 2002).

Open Disclosure is now a priority program for the Australian Health Ministers' Conference.

The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care recently published their annual report on sentinel events in Australian public hospitals.  The Windows into Safety and Quality in Health Care 2008 provides information about Open Disclosure and information on Queensland Health approach to Open Disclosure (Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (October 2008), Windowns into Safety and Quality in Health Care 2008, ACSQHC, Sydney).
