A state-wide pressure ulcer prevalence audit was completed in 2008. The audit has provided a snapshot of the number of pressure ulcers at each Queensland Health facility on the day each site was audited. The 2008 audit aimed to raise awareness of pressure ulcers and focused on the key areas of risk assessment, prevalence, equipment and documentation. Nutritional status data was collected at sites where a dietician was available.
All Queensland Health inpatient and residential and aged care facilities were audited. Pressure Ulcer Prevention Clinical Nurse Consultants visited sites and worked with trained teams of auditors to conduct skin checks on all consenting patients.
Our sincere thanks to all who assisted in the audit process.
We hope that the audit has raised pressure ulcer awareness throughout Queensland and encourage you to visit our education and resource pages for support in improving knowledge and reducing prevalence in your facilities.
The 2008 State-Wide Report will be available approximately June 2009.
