Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Unit
The unit provides leadership and strategic advice for the planning and provision of health services and programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It promotes communication, cooperation and joint problem solving between business areas to improve health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Key functions

Provide strategic leadership, advice, planning, and priority setting of health services and programs for Indigenous peoples.

Coordinate the implementation of the National Strategic Framework for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Framework and key result areas for action by governments.

Facilitate, develop and implement systematic processes to identify, analyse, monitor and report on strategic investments.

Work collaboratively with partners across government and non-government sectors to ensure a coherent, whole-of-government response to strenghten and improve health outcomes for Indigenous people (eg. funding, statewide service planning and partnerships, workforce devopment, information and information systems development).

Participate in national joint agency and inter-government networks and forums to advise and progress Indigenous health issues.

Foster and facilitate a coordinatied and integrated approach towards improving the health status of Indigenous people.
Key priorities for 2007

Provide leadship and embrace new directions and improvements towards Indigenous health performance reforms.

Lead the change management process associated with Indigenous health reform.

Continue to provide strategic leadership and facilitate communication, planning, monitoring and analysis of departmental services and activities across Queensland Health to improve health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.

Influence and facilitate statewide partnership activities which inform the 'National Strategic Framework for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Framework for Action' by governments.
