Queensland Health’s Communicable Diseases Branch is responsible for the surveillance, prevention and control of communicable diseases in Queensland. This involves overseeing legislation, policy, and operational management of communicable diseases. In particular, the Branch focuses on preventing disease spreading from person to person and from animals to people. As part of protecting the public health of Queenslanders, the Branch coordinates Queensland’s vaccination program, monitors disease outbreaks and plans for emerging pandemics and biosecurity threats.
