Communicable Diseases Branch

Queensland Health’s Communicable Diseases Branch is responsible for the surveillance, prevention and control of communicable diseases in Queensland. This involves overseeing legislation, policy, and operational management of communicable diseases. In particular, the Branch focuses on preventing disease spreading from person to person and from animals to people. As part of protecting the public health of Queenslanders, the Branch coordinates Queensland’s vaccination program, monitors disease outbreaks and plans for emerging pandemics and biosecurity threats.

The Branch is made up of seven statewide units:

  1. Centre for Healthcare Related Infection Surveillance and Prevention
  2. Communicable Disease Prevention & Control Unit
  3. Epidemiology, Surveillance and Research Unit
  4. HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C, Sexual Health Unit
  5. HIV Public Health Team
  6. Queensland Health Immunisation Program
  7. Queensland Tuberculosis Control Centre.
