Cancer Screening Services Unit
The Cancer Screening Services Unit coordinates and leads cancer screening programs for Queenslanders. We also provide specialist advice to the Minister for Health, Director-General, Corporate Office and health service districts. This advice regards policies, service planning and performance monitoring and providing high quality cancer screening services.
Key functions

Strategically plan for cancer screening, and coordinate the set up, running and support of cancer screening services.

Develop and implement strategies for communication across Queensland.

Coordinate the monitoring, evaluation, data management and distribution of cancer screening across Queensland. A key role is also to monitor quality of cancer screening services.

Manage quality assurance for cancer screening services in Queensland. We also coordinate the accreditation process for BreastScreen Queensland (BSQ) and maintain agreements for BSQ mammography, film processing and ultrasound equipment with Biomedical Technology Services, Queensland Health.

Manage the BreastScreen Queensland Register and the Pap Smear Register.

Provide data to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) for monitoring the outcomes of the BreastScreen Australia Program, National Cervical Screening Program and the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program.

Provide support to staff of BreastScreen Queensland Services which is coordinated between the services, health service districts and the private sector.

Assist in the coordination of the Mobile Women's Health Service between health service districts, the Rural and Remote Women's Health Program which is provided by the Royal Flying Doctor Service, non-government organisations and the private sector.

Develop and coordinate the implementation of the Queensland Cervical Screening Program State Plan 2002 - 2006 and the BreastScreen Queensland State Plan 2001 - 2006. We are also managing the implementation of the Queensland Bowel Cancer Screening Program.

Develop, implement and promote strategies to ensure an appropriate cancer screening services workforce.

Coordinate quality management committees to make sure specialist clinical input is included in the review of quality, policy and program performance.

Develop and coordinate the CSSU Consumer Advisory Committee to incorporate user/client and community input into policy, quality planning and service delivery. We also make sure that services and activities are culturally safe.

Represent Queensland Health on national and state groups.
