Role of the Water Quality Unit
The Water Quality Unit is the lead agency for legislation, policy, guidelines and standards development in relation to water quality.
Key issues
-
Establishment and implementation of policy, standards, guidelines, support programs and regulatory systems to manage the health risks associated with:
- drinking water quality
- recycled water schemes.

Development and implementation of a regulatory framework to support water fluoridation.
-
Development of policy, standards, guidelines and support programs for:
- recreational water quality
- water recycling in food manufacturing businesses
- private water suppliers not covered by the regulatory framework.

Undertaking research activities to inform decisions relating to drinking water, recycled water and recreational water quality policies.

Provision of health risk advice regarding water quality to local government and other agencies.
-
Monitoring of notifications against the water quality standards.
