Planning and Development Unit
The Planning and Development Unit provides strategic leadership, advice and support for planning, service development and quality management initiatives across Population Health Branch. We also give epidemiological support. Our clients are the Senior Director of Population Health Branch, unit/area directors of Population Health Branch, other parts of Queensland Health and other key partners.
Key functions

Coordinate systems for strategic and operational planning, monitoring and reporting across Population Health Branch.

Develop, implement and maintain quality improvement initiatives across Population Health Branch in areas such as:
- leadership development
- information and knowledge development
- strategic and business planning
- monitoring and review
- project management
- business process improvement
- client and partner relations
- human resource management.

Support Population Health Branch to develop future directions for public health action and service delivery models to maximise health outcomes and organisational efficiencies.

Support the development and communication of research capability and priorities of Population Health Branch. We also work to develop and maintain effective research partnerships with other researchers and service providers to inform our planning, priority setting and service delivery.

Represent Population Health Branch and/or Queensland Health in national and state policy, planning and service development initiatives.

Coordinate a strategic approach to epidemiology practice across Population Health Branch. We also give support to the ongoing development of the epidemiology workforce.

Coordinate the identification and periodic review of appropriate health and related performance indicators and benchmarks.

Support the adoption of a strategic approach to Population Health Branch's investment in and management of information systems. This includes rationalising existing systems and developing or purchasing systems which support our business requirements and service delivery needs.

Support collaborative partnerships to promote effective public health action, workforce development and dissemination of best practice. These partnerships are with other parts of Queensland Health, the broader health system, universities and other sectors.

Support the Senior Director of Population Health Branch to manage and coordinate strategic decision-making forums for Population Health Branch.

Coordinate the preparation of reports and responses for the whole of Population Health Branch.
