Common questions about the Parent Transition Program

Q1. Can I do the program if I am willing to travel to the Gold Coast”?
A1. YES as long as you attend all the sessions.

Q2. “What problems are commonly faced by parents who attend the program”?
A2. Problems like depression or social isolation, arguments and conflicts with partners and in-laws, difficulty with adjusting to becoming or being a parent, loss of a child or parent etc are typical issues.

Q3. “What problems or issues are not dealt with by the program?”
A3. Parents with suicidal, substance abuse and psychotic problems are not appropriate for the group. Adult Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol Services or Psychiatrists are the most appropriate place to seek help for these issues.

Q4. “What happens if I start and don’t want to continue the program”?
A4. You may withdraw at any time without penalty as the program is purely voluntary.

Q5. “Why do we need to complete self report questionnaires”?
A5. The program is evidenced based so we need objective information to evaluate the true benefits of it. This information will then be used to help other parents by making the program better.

Q6. I am happy to fill out questionnaires but am worried that my name will be used and it will identify me”?
A6. All information is confidential and locked up in a secure area. Parents will be allocated a code that will be used to identify them and this will maintain their confidentiality. Parents do not have to fill out questionnaires if they don’t want to.
