The Mental Health Scholarship Scheme 2015

The Mental Health Scholarship Scheme provides financial assistance for completion of approved post graduate level university studies in mental health clinical practice that will enhance the capability of Queensland Health mental health staff.

Scholarships are awarded to Queensland Health clinicians, who are currently working closely with mental health consumers and are either:

Financial and study assistance

All scholarship recipients will receive up to $1,000 per subject for successful completion of study completed in 2015. As of 2015 there will be a maximum payment of $5,000 for any individual.

Scholarship recipients who will not complete their program of study in one year must re-apply for a scholarship in the second year of study. Priority will be given to applications from previous scholarship recipients for their second year of study providing it is a continuation of the same program and is under the maximum scholarship amount of $5,000.

Scholarship holders at a local area level may negotiate with their line manager to access leave for course requirements. At their discretion Hospital and Health Services may support scholarship holders to meet their course requirements by granting:

Eligible courses

The scheme supports two broad categories of postgraduate courses:

  1. Courses that lead to credentialing in mental health nursing.
  2. Courses that assist allied health professionals in enhancing advanced clinical mental health practice with a holistic, recovery-oriented, consumer focussed service delivery and that are:

- linked to national and state mental health policy, priorities and standards

- directly relevant to recognised and supported clinical practice in mental health

- focussed on clinical or direct service provision skills

- focussed on addressing identified workforce priorities such as skill shortages or the development of competencies.

Applications for study in 2015 open 1st September 2014 and close 31st October 2014. Important: No applications will be accepted after this date.

Information to claim reimbursements for study

In order to claim reimbursement for your study you will need to complete the following:

  1. Download, complete, print and sign MHSS claim form pdf supply original.

  2. Download, complete, print and sign electronic funds transfer request pdf– supply original.

  3. Obtain invoice/statement/deferment/receipt for fees from your education institution – supply original.

  4. Supply a copy of your transcript of results.

  5. Mail all 4 items to:

The Mental Health Scholarship Scheme Coordinator will email you when the documents have been received and submitted to the accounts payable department.
