Supervision Resource Centre

Welcome to the Practice Supervision Resource Centre for Mental Health Services. The role of the Centre is to promote and assist in sustaining the implementation of the Queensland Health Practice Supervision for Mental Health policy. The Centre aims to provide information, support and guidance relevant to practice supervision which will be useful to both supervisees and supervisors. This is achieved through encouraging and supporting the provision of effective practice supervision for all Queensland Health Mental Health clinical staff.

The Queensland Centre for Mental Health Learning in conjunction with the Allied Health Supervision Steering Committee is currently reviewing and updating the Practice Supervision Training Program and Supervision Resource Centre. It is expected that this review will generate significant changes to Supervision Resource Centre and available resources over the coming months.  The primary goal of this review is to ensure the delivery of current best-practice standards for practice supervision and to support Allied Health Supervisors and Supervisees in achieving effective supervision outcomes.

This is achieved through the provision of:

  • ongoing support of supervision training on a negotiated basis
  • materials and resources relating to best practice in supervision
  • support in implementing Queensland Health policy and procedure related to practice supervision in the Mental Health Service
  • information about training and practice resources and opportunities
  • links to best practice sites to support practice supervision.
  • information, resources and support to assist in the continuous improvement in the receipt and provision of practice supervision
  • general information about options staff may utilise to assist them in resolution of difficulties experienced in the provision or receipt of practice supervision

Supervision policy

The development and implementation of the Queensland Health policy 'Practice Supervision in Allied Mental Health' arose from the EBIII agreement (1998). This initiative was a direct response to staff concerns about limited access to supervision and career structure opportunities within the Allied Health Mental Health Service workforce.
