Forensic and Scientific Services: DNA Analysis

The DNA Analysis laboratory performs over 30,000 DNA profiles each year, on biological samples obtained from:

Reporting scientists within DNA Analysis provide a Statement of Witness to the courts, and appear in court to provide expert evidence when requested by the Office of the Director of Prosecutions.

The laboratory contributes DNA profiles to the CrimTrac Agency's National Criminal Investigation DNA Database. The laboratory has utilised this database since 2003 and all states, territories and the Commonwealth share data on this database.

The DNA Analysis laboratory operates to National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) forensic accreditation requirements. All DNA profiles are performed under strict, quality-controlled conditions by qualified and trained personnel.
