Our services

Who do we help?

The QHVSS provides assistance to:

The direct victim(s) of the offence
The parents or guardians of a young victim, or a victim with legal incapacity
Immediate family members of a deceased victim
Other concerned persons who have been directly harmed by or witnessed an offence
Professionals and other interested persons seeking advice, information and assistance

The QHVSS assists by providing:

Information and support in understanding and navigating the Forensic Mental Health System and Criminal Justice Systems
Information and assistance to enable individuals to understand and make informed choices and decisions relating to their involvement in the Forensic Mental Health System
Information about victim rights and entitlements
Supportive counselling
Making an application for a Classified Patient Information Order or a Forensic Patient Information Order
Information to registered victims/family members in relation to Patient Information Orders
Assisting in the preparation of statements to the Mental Health Court and submissions to the Mental Health Review Tribunal
Support in attending and understanding the processes and outcomes of the Mental Health Court
Coordination and liaison with related services on behalf of victims
Assessment, information and referral to specialist services
