What should my child bring to hospital?

Please label all property/clothes brought to hospital.

Clothing

The Children’s Ward has a large selection of baby clothes available for use. There is also a small collection of clothes available for other ages.

For children having procedures, pyjamas that button up the front are advisable for the first few days. Children will then generally wear day clothes during their recovery.

Baby Formula

The following formula is stocked by the Children’s Ward: S26, S26 low birth weight, S26 Progress, Nan 1,Nan 2, Alfare, Karicare, Karicare Follow-on, Karicare Soya, Karicare Soya Follow-on, Formula additives Poyjopule, FM85, Pedisure. If your baby requires any other formula could you please discuss with the Admission and Discharge Coordinator. Please bring your baby’s teats and dummies with you to hospital.

Toiletries:

Standard toileteries such as hairbrush, toothbrush, toothpaste and other items should be included in the packed items.

Children’s Favourites

It is recommended that some favourite reminders from home eg. Security toy, photos, a favourite video or book, and for older children a Walkman with favourite music is available for the child to use.

School

Education Queensland Guidelines state that children are entitled to schooling after they have been hospitalised for four days. An Education Queensland teacher regularly visits the Children’s Ward. School age children should bring some schoolwork from their teacher if they are able.
