North Queensland Spinal Service (NQSS)

The North Queensland Spinal Service (NQSS) assists people with a spinal cord injury in North Queensland including Papua New Guinea and Thursday Island. Our service is multidisciplinary providing clinical intervention, rehabilitation, consultancy and education to people with spinal cord injuries within Townsville Hospital as well as clients in the northern zone of Queensland.

Experienced health professionals of NQSS include: Rehab Physician, Clinical Nurse Consultant, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist.

  • Visit people in their homes, where necessary, if they live within 200km of The Townsville Hospital
  • Provide advice over the telephone, e-mail or video-conferencing
  • Visit clients in regional areas within the northern zone during scheduled regional visits (see below 2009 regional visit dates). Information flyer will be sent to clients prior to each visit for interest in appointments by NQSS.
  • Who is Eligible for NQSS?

    NQSS is a FREE service to anyone with a spinal cord injury.

  • Referrals can be directed to any member of the service.
  • Referrals are accepted from individuals, family members/carers and health professionals in the North Queensland.
  • Referrals can be made by phone or in writing to NQSS
  • GP referrals may be requested if necessary.
