Diagnosis of Tuberculosis (TB): Step 4 of 4

Start treatment and ongoing monitoring

Patients taking anti-tuberculosis medication are closely monitored to ensure they are taking it correctly and to monitor any side effects. As a TB patient, you will have a nurse assigned to you for the time you are on treatment, whether you are a public or private patient. The nurse will help you with doctor’s visits, can provide home or hospital visits, and will call you to check if there are any problems during the treatment.

If anti-tuberculosis medication is taken exactly as directed, active TB disease can be cured. Once treatment is completed, it is unusual for the disease to reactivate.

Contact us if you have any questions about your treatment or have TB-like symptoms.
