Industrial gauging practices

This page provides advice on how to apply for a licence to possess radiation sources (ie. radioactive substances or x-ray equipment) for industrial gauging.  A use licence is not required to use radiation sources for industrial gauging.

Possession licence application kit

A possession licence, issued under the Radiation Safety Act 1999, is required to be held to possess a radiation source for industrial gauging.

To apply for a possession licence, the following steps should be followed:

Step 1

Download and complete the applicable application form.

For radioactive substances

For ionising radiation apparatus (x-ray equipment)

Step 2

Develop a radiation safety and protection plan which details the radiation protection measures that will be conducted by your practice.  Guidelines to assist in the development of such a plan are available, as follows:

Step 3

Submit the completed application form, with a signed and dated radiation safety and protection plan, to Radiation Health.  The prescribed fee must accompany the application.
