Portable density and moisture gauging practices

This page provides advice on how to apply for licences to possess and use radioactive substances in portable density and moisture gauges for geotechnical measurements.

Use licence application kit

Any person who uses radioactive substances in portable density and moisture gauges for geotechnical measurements must hold an appropriate use licence.  To apply for a licence, the following steps should be followed:

Submit the completed application form, with verification of qualifications and experience as requested by the licensing criteria information sheet, to Radiation Health.  The prescribed fee must accompany the application.

Possession licence application kit

A possession licence, issued under the Radiation Safety Act 1999, is required to be held to possess radioactive substances in portable density and moisture gauges.  To apply for a licence, the following steps should be followed:

Develop a radiation safety and protection plan which details the radiation protection measures that will be conducted by your practice.  Guidelines to assist in the development of such a plan are available, as follows:

Submit the completed application form, with a signed and dated radiation safety and protection plan, to Radiation Health.  The prescribed fee must accompany the application.
