The RBWH Foundation supports RBWH, STARS, and other prestigious research institutes and centres at the Herston Health Precinct. Today, along with the Raise it for Redcliffe team at Redcliffe Hospital, they banded together to raise funds and acknowledge the extraordinary efforts involved in providing world-class care here at Metro North Health.

Patients, staff and families had stars in their eyes as they mingled with sporting stars and celebrities and participated in activities throughout the day and lauded the efforts of the teams on this celebratory day.

Dolphins NRL Captain Tom Gilbert caught up with RBWH Foundation ambassador Glen (here with Tom and RBWH Foundation Supporter Emily,) and was delighted to support the special day.

Days like this ground you, Tom said.

Even though Ive been on the receiving end of medical treatment recently, its nothing compared to what some of these patients have had to endure.

Giving Day gives us an opportunity to rally behind the patients and the hospital and come together as a community to give back and get behind these remarkable individuals.

1.5 million meals. Thats the annual output of the kitchen at RBWH - Queenslands largest hospital.

To give their colleagues a glimpse at the scale of their operations, the kitchen team recently opened their doors for other Metro North Health staff to learn more about what it takes to produce thousands of meals each day for patients with often-complex dietary and nutrition needs.

Assistant Director for Food Services Lisa, pictured with Site Coordinator Juerg, shared some of the staggering kitchen stats.

We have over 220 amazing food service and dietetic staff in the team who prepare and deliver food and drinks, including more than 403,000 sandwiches, 22,300 salads and 163,800 bananas each year to our patients. Lisa said. 🥪🥗🍌

Our team receive up 120 truck deliveries into the kitchen each week and run a tight ship to ensure the ingredients are as fresh as possible when delivered to patients.

Our kitchen staff rotate from meal prep to patient deliveries, and then to cleaning, where we spend 8,400 hours dishwashing each year.

The team pride themselves on their quality of food preparation and are always looking to ensure every patient has a five-star experience. ⭐

The experience and dedication of our head and neck specialists is remarkable. Were constantly pushing boundaries and collaborating to ensure every patient gets the highest quality of care available.
