Selection and appointment
The basis of all appointments is merit, i.e. the successful applicant will have the highest level of merit overall. Merit is measured by how well an applicant meets the qualifications and selection criteria for the position as detailed in the position description.
The following should be noted by potential applicants:

A non smoking policy is effective in Queensland Health buildings (including corridors, passageways, walkways and balconies) offices, grounds and motor vehicles.

It is an expectation that all staff work in accordance with the Queensland Health Code of Conduct 2006, the Workplace Health and Safety Legislation, Infection Control Policies and all other policies, directives and legislation that impact upon their position.

Potential applicants may be subject to "pre-employment history check" which could include working with children, identity, bankruptcy and/or previous disciplinary history checks. Any one or a number or these checks may be conducted in accordance with legislative provisions or directives issued by the Public Service Commissioner.

A criminal history check may be conducted on the recommended person for the position.

A probation period will apply to new permanent employees. There is a three-month probationary period for all new appointees from outside the Public Sector in the operational stream and for the administrative stream, and six months for all other new employees. Probation does not apply to casual or temporary engagements, transfer-at-level or appointment on promotion.

The Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital require all employees to adopt appropriate and recognised measures to minimise the risk of infection to themselves, other employees, and patients and to adhere to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital Infection Control Guidelines.

All Queensland Health staff involved in patient contact or contact with contaminated material (blood or other body fluids) must be immunised against hepatitis B according to NHMRC guidelines or as updated by infection control policy. Hepatitis B immunisation is a condition of employment. Staff must be prepared to be immunised or submit evidence of current immunisation.

All health professionals who in the course of their duties formulate a reasonable suspicion that a child or young person has been or is likely to be abused or neglected in their home/community environment, has a duty of care obligation to immediately report such concerns to the Department of Child Safety.
